"Eric, do you have a favorite Republican?" That is what the Republicans in my life would like to know. Probably they are rounding out their rosters of the untrustworthy and would like one guy without a D after his name. But who? Eric will know.
Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb. Here is a meaty profile. Here he expresses appropriate exasperation with the familiar, unctuous pieties of Joe Lieberman. Here the similarly oily formulations of Condoleezza Rice are subjected to similarly blunt deconstruction. He has made the choice to be a Republican, so all cannot be sweetness and light, but it's another favorable sign for Hagel that he has elicited sneers from the Powerline philosophers--not that any sensible person with a sufficiently high profile can't achieve the same status.
