I am one of those guys who has only one house, but I don't begrudge John McCain the four, or half dozen, or however many his staff finds out he owns on account of having married the USC cheerleader and beer distributorship heiress after divorcing wife #1. Pro move, Senator! But, speaking very slowly so that a class warrior can follow the logic, could you explain again why it follows that the self-made Barack Obama is an "elitist"?
And, while you are in explanatory mode, enlighten me on another matter. Affirmative action is bad, right? In our country, you should advance only as far as your own merit and initiative take you. But how many houses would you own if that rule applied to Mrs. McCain? (I'm assuming you still would have married her if she had landed where her merit dropped her.) Explain how the principle underlying your opposition to affirmative action might apply to other issues--to a consideration, say, of the estate tax (you call it the "death tax"). You want to abolish it, but if the rate were higher, would not Mrs. McCain have enjoyed more of a chance to show how far she could go on her own merit and initiative?
