Power Line's execrable Scott Johnson has up a post under the title "a word fitly spoken." This refers, we learn, to the biblical proverb, loved by Abraham Lincoln, that "a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." And Johnson has a contemporary instance of a fitly spoken word! He links to one Erick Erickson, who, on the subject of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) yanking its financial support of the repugnant Michele Bachmann's re-election campaign, writes:
Let's just call Tom Cole (R-OK), the head of the NRCC, what he is: a douchebag.
So the "word fitly spoken" turns out to be "douchebag." The boys are so distressed over the coming electoral disaster that they are besliming fellow Republicans. What can account for all the bluster and aggressive vitriol? Is is possibly a compensation for, er, physical shortcomings?
