As an update, or coda, to my recent screed about the undemocratic US Senate, Norman Ornstein, resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and contributing editor at The Atlantic, notes that in another 20 or 25 years 70 percent of Americans will live in the fifteen most populous states. Assuming no structural reform occurs, 30 percent of the population will then elect 70 of the 100 US senators.
