President Trump grows in office! The above tweet, from March of 2014, was still his position when he was running for president, and the source of Hillary Clinton's scornful riposte, "The Science is clear: The earth is round, the sky is blue, and #vaccineswork. Let's protect all our kids. #GrandmothersKnowBest." But with measles outbreaks in the news, Trump has changed his tune to "Hillary was right, get your shots!"
Just kidding, he's changed his tune to "Get your shots!"
With the Dems soon to begin their presidential debate season with a stage full of candidates, and maybe an undercard for those who underpoll on account of being undermonied (unless they are undermonied on account of underpolling), I'm feeling nostalgic for 2015, when one's enjoyment of a stage full of Republican presidential candidates wasn't corrupted by knowledge that the very most ridiculous one was going to win--and not just the nomination. Remember the "debate" in which the eventual winner raised the question of whether, er, size matters? He spoke eloquently of his beautiful (though small) hands, and assured a watching nation that "everything is fine down there." It's one thing he wasn't lying about, as the hush money payments prove.
Was it in the same debate, or another, that Trump sparred with Ben Carson, now his HUD secretary, over whether vaccinations cause autism? Carson, an eminent surgeon, insisted that studies disproved Trump's odd notions, and he was right about that. Now if only we could get him up to speed on the subject matter of the cabinet department he's headed for the last two-and-a-half years. REO, Dr. Carson, not Oreo: Real Estate Owned, like after foreclosure. Good grief, do you spend all your time studying furniture catalogs? Carson is almost comically unfit for his position, but I think I can explain how it happened. "We got one black guy," Trump mused, "and Housing & Urban Development is sort of blackish, so stick him in there!"
Carson has grown even less than his boss, an unlikely feat that suggests he's actively trying to learn nothing.
