John Cassidy, writing in the New Yorker, notes that last month Golf magazine rated the top golf resorts in the country. Taking note of the fact that different people are looking for different experiences, the editors created four categories, and then, for each category, ranked the top five resorts before listing alphabetically 20 others. If you're interested in a golf vacation, here are the magazine's top-rated destinations in each category:
Luxury—Pebble Beach Resorts, Pebble Beach, California
Buddies (an evident euphemism for conducive to boys' weekend debauchs)—Brandon Dunes Golf Resort, Brandon, Oregon
Families—Big Cedar Lodge, Ridgedale, Missouri
General Excellence—The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colorado
That's if you're interested in golf. If you're interested in what President Trump calls "the swamp," the salient point is that his Doral Resort, which recently was "selected" by the federal government as the site for the G-7 summit meeting next June, does not land in the top 25 of any of the four categories. But disabuse yourself of the crazy notion that Trump is helping himself to federal treasure (aka, your tax dollars): he's supplying his resort, he says, "at cost." I have no idea what the phrase means, but the occupancy rate at Miami golf resorts in June is low, so he and his crime family would be considerably ahead if Doral were to "break even" on account of being filled for several weeks during the off season.
Ewwww, I just had a vision in my mind of the pretty picture made by the president after golfing Doral's Blue Monster in June, his sweaty golf shirt sticking to the contours of the presidential physique.
