I seem to have set out a blow-by-blow account of the Kentucky governor's race without making a mention of any of the other elections held last Tuesday. So, briefly:
A Republican won Mississippi's gubernatorial election by 5.5 points, 52.1 to 46.6 percent.
Democrats took control of both houses of Virginia's state assembly. In addition, the governor is a Democrat, both US senators are Democrats, seven of the eleven congressional districts are represented by Democrats, and the state has given its electoral votes to the Democratic presidential candidate for the last three elections. If the electoral college tempts us to designate each state either "red," "blue," or "swing," it's maybe time to reassign Virginia to the blue team.
Possibly my favorite outcome from Tuesday's elections was also from Virginia. Juli Briskman, the cyclist pictured above waving at Trump's motorcade in 2017 with her shortest fingers folded down, was elected to the Board of Supervisors in Loudon County, which is in northern Virginia across the Potomac from D.C. Briskman was fired from her job as a marketing executive after the picture went viral. Seems to have landed on her feet, however. So far, it's hard to detect evidence of voters punishing Democrats for their "shams" and "witch hunts" and generalized spitefulness.
