The Trump administration has a new talking point on the coronavirus pandemic: "We just have to live with it." The upside of the new talking point is that it's hard to imagine what might happen that would make it look wrong and ridiculous. Back in April, the vice president predicted that by Memorial Day the pandemic would be behind us, and before that President Trump said warmer weather would kill the virus and the plague would lift "like a miracle."
Well, it's now the Fourth of July weekend, and we are having more new cases than ever—principally, in places where the weather is hottest.
We have about 4% of the world's population and about a quarter of the worldwide COVID-19 cases and deaths. But don't despair, the federal government's wishful thinking is now augmented by a dynamite new slogan that will never be disproven. Moreover, Trump went to South Dakota and read aloud, as best he could, the Wikipedia article on Thomas Jefferson.
How long before I can vote?
