I think I'm eating better during COVID, and not only because I get more takeout. This is a pic of my first pie, baked today. Apple. Homemade, though, unlike grandma's, the crusts were not made with lard and rolled out with a rolling pin on my kitchen counter: baking aisle at Cub. I think maybe they weren't quite big enough for my 9.5 inch pie plate? The bottom one didn't extend above the edge of the plate and it was hard to make the top one meet it and get them fluted together—if that's the word. A bit of an esthetic failure, but my girls ate it lustily, and, when I asked them what kind I should try next, told me to make apple again. They may harbor doubts about my culinary range. If he made something half decent, best to stick with it.
Fourth grader (Claire) going back to school tomorrow. First time since last March. So excited she took a shower without being asked. Seventh grader (Lydia) goes up to shower after fourth grader is done and soon can be heard yelling.
Lydia: Claire, did you use four towels?
Claire (bored): Yeah.
Lydia: JESUS!
Later, eating pie, Lydia announces what she considers to be "possibly" her two best traits: "I'm smart and I have nice hair." Claire replies immediately, "You do have nice hair."
